Regarding Art...
London Booster by David Cerny
03.08.2012

Whilst out in Islington we stumbled upon David Cerny's installation 'London Booster'. Part of London's cultural Olympiad, the artist worked on the 'Routemaster' bus for 6 months, transforming it into an 'athlete'. The 1957 bus finishes push-ups in reps of ten, grunting and groaning with every lift. It's amazing.

This weekend we were at the Royal Academy for David Hockney's A Bigger Picture. We'd been looking forward to this for months and the sell-out exhibition didn't disappoint. The focus is on Hockney's landscapes, this is not a new subject for him and we are reminded of this at the start of the exhibition with works dating from the '50s to '90s. The majority of pieces on display were created in the last decade, these include oil paintings, watercolours, charcoal drawings, photographic joiners, films and his recent iPad drawings. Hockney still divides opinion but I love the fact he constantly embraces technology to find new ways to express his art. Having grown up not far from where Hockney did I've always felt a strong connection and influence with his work, he captures the Yorkshire countryside perfectly and this show was a nice reminder of home.

The weather was lovely today so we decided to put our pens and pencils down and take a walk along to river. We stopped off at Somerset House to see the annual illustration show, 'Pick Me Up'. It's well worth a visit - there's lots of prints to buy along with events and workshops to take part in. Our favourite piece was these beautiful wooden figures shown here. The show's open until 1 April so make sure you see it soon!

There seems to be so many great exhibitions in London at the moment! Today we visited the Picasso show at Tate Britain. It focuses on Picasso, his influence on many of Britain's great artists and how this played a role in the acceptance of modern art in Britain.

Just back from a fantastic couple of days in Yorkshire. I'm always inspired by visiting Salts Mill in Saltaire. It's a beautiful space in an amazing setting, as well as home to a vast collection of works by Bradford born artist, David Hockney. I was lucky enough to catch his '25 Trees and other Pictures' exhibition, featuring the changing seasons of the Yorkshire landscape. It's on until the end of April so make sure you go and see it! As a long standing fan of David Hockney I can't wait to see his 'Bigger Picture' exhibition at the RCA next month in London.
